Dean Students Welcome to Visit Museum of Fine Arts in Boston for Free

Dean College encourages their students to develop a deep appreciation of the Arts – and that is why Dean has coordinated for current students to be able to visit the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Massachusetts as many times as they want this school year – for free.

The MFA is consistently one of the most visited Museums in the United States.  With constantly updated exhibit, students can enjoy the museum with a group of friends or as an individual.  Hop on the MBTA commuter rail train (Dean College station is one block from campus), get off at Back Bay Station and take an Orange Line train to Ruggles station.  Below are the hours of the MFA:

Feelin’ Stressed?

Feelin’ stressed over mid-terms? Not to worry – Dean College Student Ambassador Rachel Ladd has got you covered with tips and tricks from a seasoned pro.  Freshmen, listen up!

Howdy, y’all! (I’m getting into my “Oklahoma!” mode now that rehearsals have started for the show, which I will obviously write a post about…but we’ll get into that later!) Now that it’s mid-term season, how’s everyone feeling? I can hear the cries for help across the country as students are prepping and studying for the big half-way point tests, projects, and papers. But fear not! As a senior, I’ve been through my fair share of mid-term grades, and I’ve survived! (And that’s saying something). Need some help for organization? I’ve got some tips…and don’t worry, they’re easy peezy!

  • Pack your bag the night before, especially if you have an early morning class. The last thing you want to do is pack a bag for the day at 7:00 AM while you’re rushing around half asleep.
  • Write down everything your professor writes down on the board, or says that sounds important! You never know what a teacher is going to put on a test, and if that test happens to be open notebook then you’ll be super prepped.
  • Write down all assignment due dates, which means that you should have a planner. If you don’t have a planner already, invest in one now because being in college without a planner is basically asking to always be behind in your classes!
  • Always, always, ALWAYS start assignments the day they were assigned, even if they aren’t due for a month. This sounds a little crazy, but if you have half of it done a week before it’s due, you’ll feel a lot easier about it, rather than still having to write the whole paper. Plus, if your friends want to grab fro-yo at Fro-Yo World down the street, you can say “Sure!” instead of “No, I have a paper I have to start that’s due tomorrow…” (And c’mon, fro-yo is something you just CAN’T pass up).
  • Remember to do something for yourself every once and a while! It doesn’t need to be a big thing…I like to buy myself a nice Dunkin Donuts coffee, or the new issue of Glamour and read it…something like that. Even watching a re-run of “How I Met Your Mother” or “Family Guy” for a half hour is a great way to escape from the stress of college life. Just don’t get lazy!
  • And lastly, STUDY YOUR NOTES. All-nighters are probably the worst thing EVER, and if you are organized and do little things to keep yourself on top of your stuff, all-nighters are also very unnecessary. If do a little bit every night, then you won’t have anything left to do the night before an assignment is due. And it’s just that simple.

Until next time, folks!

Super Fun Activities at Dean

I swear Dean has to have the best activities for students ever. I know this may sound like a promotional (it kinda is) but I swear it’s totally true. On Wednesday I saw Noises off, which is a play written by Michael Frayn and performed by Dean College students. It was epically awesome. I laughed all through the show. All of the actors were awesome and so was the play itself. Then on Thursday I painted a t-shirt with the aesthetics club (It didn’t turn out well, but that’s due to my lack of artistic talent.) and went to a stand-up comedy show (Geoff Keith was hilarious!). On Friday I made an airbrushed t-shirt and got an airbrushed tattoo. Okay, so really I just told the guy what I wanted my shirt to say; but I did decorate a dog cookie by myself (by decorate I mean just spread icing on it). Putting my nonexistent art talent to the side, I’ve had absolutely no problem finding anything to do here. Between classes, friends, the gorgeous city of Franklin, and all the awesome activities Dean provides for us, I can’t be bored and I know that anyone else wouldn’t be either.

Hello, Dean College!

Bonjour, mon amis! My name is Rachel Ladd, and I am SUPER DUPER excited to be a Dean College Blog contributor! Just a little bit about myself…I’m a senior from Rhode Island, studying Theatre. I got my AA at Dean in Musical Theatre, but I loved it so much that I decided to come back! I’m loud, my favorite color is pink (and leopard), I hate capital letters (but I guess I’ll use them for the sake of Dean), and I’m a Student Ambassador. Hmmm…what else? When prompted with what “Friends” character I’d be, I always answer with “a combo, not just one.” My favorite food is mac n’ cheese (Kraft animal shapes, preferably), and when I grow up, I want to be Minnie Mouse.

But enough about that! Let’s talk Dean! If you already go here, or are even thinking about going here, one thing must be made clear (and is very well-known): Dean is different. I chose Dean over the other two places I got into (one being a University) because of the warm, welcoming atmosphere and little details like small class sizes. These things make Dean different because Dean recognizes you’re an individual, not just someone who’s giving them money. ALSO, Dean’s mascot is a bulldog…I mean, C’MONNNN, how can you not love this face ?!

Am I right?!

But anyway, enough about adorable puppy dogs, let’s get back to the college. To wrap this up & make it short and sweet, I love it here! This post was more of an intro, BUT, I can never keep my mouth shut about how much I love Dean College. (Also, our first blog post was our students and staff doing a cover of “Call Me Maybe”…awesome). So, until next time lovely readers, have a wonderful fall day…week…or however long it takes me to write another post. See ya later, alligators !

Welcome to Dean College

We assume that by now you’ve heard the song “Call Me, Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen.  We also assume that by now you have seen at least one “lip-dub” mock video of this song.  We at Dean could think of no better way to welcome our students back this semester than to get in on all the fun.  Our mascot Boomer, our students, staff, athletes and President proudly show off what Dean College is all about in our take on Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe.  The video is fast approaching 10,000 views, and is gaining notoriety around the web–Intead recognized us with an award for Creative Engagement on their blog!  If you haven’t already, you need to check this video out:
