Last Day! Big thank you to everyone.

wakaBonjour!

Our last day was an excursion to Monaco and a walking tour in Nice, France.

First, we stopped at a perfume factory where we saw the procedure of making perfume. There are variety of perfumes and, luckily, the perfume factory offered discount for us. Yay!

After enjoying good scent of perfumes, we transferred to Monaco.
While walking to a town, we saw a privately owned helicopter, famous vehicles, and castle-like housings.Even public spaces are very organized and neat in Monaco.

We had a good time in a world widely famous state for the rich, and back to Nice. Sonia took us around the City of Nice and afterward we had a last free time. Most of the stores were closed due to St. Patrick’s Day, but I hope everyone enjoyed the last souvenir shopping!

Our last event, farewell party, was memorable. Listening to Dr. Lawson’s speech, I looked back a lot of memories of the trip. Left Boston on March 8th, we have visited Switzerland, Italy, France and Monaco in ten days; we learned history, and new language and faced cultural differences in every single day.  And one of the best things on this trip was that we made many good friendships. Spending time together and helping each other broke ices and now we are united. Personally, I really enjoyed the rooming in hotels.

I cannot say how much I enjoyed the trip and all of the memories and friends I made on this trip are treasure.  I appreciate to everyone who made the trip happened and special thanks to Dr. Lawson and the Dean College blog administrator, Josh, to give me a great experience to blog. Readers, a big thanks to you too. I hope you enjoyed my blog and it contributed to share our experiences with you.

Magic is over, and we have to back to the reality. Let’s work hard and I can’t wait to see my friends in next class!!!

Thank you very much. -Wakaba Shiokawa

headshot Hi, all – I’m getting a little bit tired of the notion that “social media” is somehow different from “real life.” Newsflash: they are one in the same. To get this point across, myself and Tom Carroll in Admissions made a little video we like to call, Social Media In Real Life. Enjoy!  - Josh

So This is the New Year…!

RachelQuick, 5 points for the person who knows what song the title of this post is from! (It’s from my favorite band).

WELCOME BACK, EVERYONE ! It’s so AWESOME to be back to Dean…I feel like I’ve been away for 5 years, and at the same time, it feels like I never left. I can’t believe it’s the second semester, which means we only have 4 months left of classes! I hope everyone had a wonderful break and kept up with the blog, even if they weren’t on campus. (The post by Alex about equality was absolutely beautiful, right?!) And I hope everyone’s ready for their new classes…this semester is going to be GREAT.

Just a friendly reminder that we have a TON of performances coming up from the School of Arts…including Romeo and Juliet, Godspell, Synergy Show, Company Show, Choreographer’s Showcase…try and make it out to all of them & support your fellow artists and students! Plus, it’ll be a good way to keep warm since it’s like, -3,000 degrees outside all of the sudden.

Until next time, folks!

#SocialMediaWeek @DeanCollege Kicks off Today!

The Dean College Social Media Committee has designed and planned a week’s worth of programming themed around Social Media on campus. The week will be fun, educational, and some great things will be given away to our students as a “reward” for their engagement with Dean College on social media sites.

The overall goal of the initiative is to embrace and encourage the use of social media from three perspectives: personal life, professional life and on-campus.  Take a look at what we’ve got planned, and how to get involved:

Thanksgiving Fun!

Howdy, y’all ! (Sorry, still in the Oklahoma mode!) So Thanksgiving is only DAYS away…and you know what that means! BRING ON THE STUFFING! I thought, in the spirit of my Halloween post a few posts back, I would tell you guys some fun Thanksgiving facts! SoOOOOoooOoo, without further ado!:

  • The pilgrims didn’t use any utensils at the first Thanksgiving dinner
  • The Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade started in the 1920′s (and in case anyone was wondering what my favorite float is, it’s Snoopy!)
  • In the USA, 280 million turkeys are sold for Thanksgiving
  • The average weight of a Thanksgiving turkey is 15 pounds
  • The big Thanksgiving football game started in 1876 – Yale vs. Princeton
  • Thanksgiving day is the busiest travel day
  • Thanksgiving wasn’t a national holiday until 1941
  • 91% of Americans eat turkey on Thanksgiving (my dad and brother are NOT part of that statistic…they don’t like turkey!)
  • And only 50% of Americans put stuffing in their turkeys
  • 40 million green been casseroles are served on Thanksgiving
  • The first Thanksgiving lasted three days…IMAGINE how much you would be eating if you ate like Thanksgiving dinner for three days in a row! (Sounds like pure bliss to me!)

And that’s all for now, folks! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, eat a lot of mashed potatoes, and travel SAFE! Until next time!

Dean College Student Blogs About How to Eat Healthy on a Budget

The following is taken from an article written on conFITdent.com, a website with writings on how to be strong, smart, and skillful. This particular article is about healthy eating on a budget & was written by a current student from Dean College, Ryan Donovan.

Healthy eating can come costly to the average person. With the US economy stagnant, customers nationwide in grocery and retail stores find themselves in a tailspin on what to buy. Purchasing a 12 pack of PowerBars or Balance Bars may add up quickly in the checkout line, but there are other alternatives to simply supplementing your diet with tons of prepackaged products. Here are some tips to help you get in and out of the grocery store with nutritious foods while still sparing your wallet.
